Instructors: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Christian Tedjasukmana
Shortname: HS Theatralität
Course No.: 05.155.16_1020
Course Type: Hauptseminar

Contents

From mindfulness app to witness video—the seminar explores contemporary everyday media in digitally networked cultures from a media and cultural studies perspective via selected concepts and phenomenon analyses. The seminar combines critical text discussions (on concepts such as participation, body images, and surveillance) with step-by-step supervised project work.

Methodologically, the course follows concepts of "research-based learning:" That is, participants can individually choose their project topic and dedicate themselves to a phenomenon of digitally networked cultures, such as a particular app, video, meme, hashtag, game, or genre. In a joint "project workshop," participants can develop original questions and perform their own critical media analyses. The goal is the realization of a group project, which is presented at the end of the semester and documented as a term paper.
